Flume Water Meter, a water meter brand that makes an average of 3,500 water meters a year, has a deal with the Nola Water Department for $500 a year for 10,000 meters.
“Our customers love the fact that we have been able to offer this service to them for the last three years,” company President and CEO Chris Miller said.
Miller said Flume has partnered with the state on the project.
The state is the only supplier of water meters in New Orleans, and Flume is the largest distributor in the state.
In order to sell the meter, the NOLA Department has to fill out a water contract, which costs about $1,000 a meter.
The price tag could be higher, but the meter is expected to sell for $1 per month.
Flume’s other water meters can be found at many stores across the city, but they can cost as much as $10,000.
That’s why it’s important to get the price down.
“The price point is really critical for the industry,” Miller said, “especially when you consider that the average water meter costs $20,000 to $25,000.”
The NOLa Water Department is still working on a final agreement with Flume, which will give the company the green light to start selling the meters to homeowners.
Miller has been involved in the water meter industry for many years.
“It’s a very competitive industry and we are seeing a lot of consolidation,” he said.
“We are not seeing this as a trend that’s going to continue.”
